Artist Biography & Facts
Karl Hayd

Karl Hayd (1882 - 1945) was active/lived in Austria.  Karl Hayd is known for Realist style rural landscape, floral still life, city scape, genre painting.

From 1902 to 1906, he studied at the Academy of Vienna, then in Prague. On his return, he met Egon Schiele, with whom he became friends from then on. His work is extremely complex, both technically and in terms of motifs.

Hayd, who always remained figurative, produced still lifes with flowers, landscapes, urban views and genre paintings. He also illustrated books, created posters and took care of industrial representations.

During World War I he worked as a war painter, while avoiding, however, the heroic exaggerations often practiced and above all representing the macabre, the murderous and the ghostly of war events.
